Character Profile: Aquarius Camus

Camus in Battles of Sanctuary

During Hyoga's six years of trainings in Siberia, Aquarius Camus had been his sensei (master). Calm, serious, but always warm-hearted, Camus was like an older brother to young Hyoga, earned his deep respect and friendship.

To Hyoga (and everyone)'s surprise, Camus was also a Gold Saint who pledged his life to protect Sanctuary even it means to kill Hyoga. Camus knew Hyoga and his friends would only fight for a good cause; however, he wasn't sure about the Pope's evil nature and would honor his oath of loyalty. As a sensei, Camus couldn't watch Hyoga to die in this cruel battle-- afterall, Hyoga is still young and could have a bright future; it is a waste for him become another sacrifice in this violent time, like Camus knew himself would soon be. Therefore, Camus pulled Hyoga out of the battle by sealing him in an ice coffin, which would keep Hyoga in an unconscious state, safe from attacks (even from other gold saints), and eventually defrost long after the battles were over.

Unfortunately, Hyoga would not allow himself to be "a coward hiding away while his friends were dying for justice". Only living in this age and fighting alongside with his hot-blooded brothers make his life worth living. After surviving through Milo's Scarlet Needles, Hyoga faced Camus in Aquarius Temple, alone. Shun and Seiya had left, for they understood this battle is about honor, about a farewell... to a best friend.

No longer master and student. Snow of Siberia was gone forever... only memory would stay, last until the end of time. Only one of them wound live, or neither. Camus and Hyoga were aware of everything, but the battle must continue. Hyoga first attacked with Diamond Dust. Camus said that since it was His lower level attack, it's no use against himself. He pointed out that there is just one way Hyoga could win: to achieve the temperature of absolute zero (-273c) which even Camus himself couldn't do it perfectly, and use Aurora Execution, a technique no one except Camus was able to use so far.

The difference in skill level soon pushed Hyoga towards the losing side. He was unconscious after receiving one of the attacks. Camus was deeply worried, he reminded Hyoga that he must keep awake, even in extreme pain. Hyoga remembered when he fainted in the snow storm of Siberia and didn't wish to move again, it was the same voice, always encouraging him to get up, to live. Hyoga got up with difficulty, but he was sealed in the ice coffin again. Camus decided to protect his young student at the last opportunity. But this time, Hyoga was able to break the ice coffin from within. Camus realized the only way Hyoga could do so, was to get closer to absolute zero than himself could.

Now the battle came to its' final stage. Both them were going to use Aurora Execution. Camus cautioned Hyoga that since he never used it before, it is dangerous for him to match it up. Hyoga remembered the theory of absolute zero Camus taught him, and lauched the attack following Camus' gesture. Two energy balls encountered, while snow and ice filled the Aquarius temple.

Camus rised with a smile on his face: finally his student was able to master the temperature of absolute zero, the ultimate technique of Aquarius Saint. His last words were to congratuate Hyoga and asking him to live a good, long life. His duty as a sensei has came to an end..........

Hyoga was in tears. He understood that Camus had just used his own life to teach him the last lesson, secret of absolute zero. He pledged that he would never forget Camus and what he taught him.

Comments

In the battle of Sanctuary, once Hyoga had a memory flash back to the first day he met Camus. With a warm, brotherly smile, Camus asked him why he wanted to be a Saint. Was it to be more healthy and strong?

Hyoga's answer was to see and save his mother, whom lost her life in a ship accident and lay in eternal sleep at the bottem of Arctic Sea.

Camus told him solomnly, every mortal dies, and no one who died would come back to life again. Not even a Saint. What Hyoga should strive for, is to be strong, never to be shaken by weakness, to be emotionally cold and live as long as the iceburg of Siberia.

Young, emotional Hyoga would never do so.

Neither could Camus himself.

And that's why he will live in our memory.

Forever.
